| Longer Lasting Fillers - Radiesse & Sculptra
Radiesse® is
a safe, next generation long lasting temporary filler derived from
calcium hydroxyapetite, a natural and soft component of bone. It
is an FDA-APPROVED wrinkle treatment used to correct moderate to
severe facial wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth, such
as nasolabial folds.
Radiesse is made of unique calcium-based
microspheres that are suspended in a water-based gel and injected
into the skin through a simple, safe, and minimally invasive procedure.
Radiesse stimulates the body to produce new collagen. This unique
response provides immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles,
and provides long-lasting and beautiful results.
Used for years in head and neck surgery, its
attributes for cosmetic dermatology are shining through. We commonly
use this substance to build cheekbones and chins without the use
of surgical implants. In addition, lower face facial hollowing can
easily be addressed along with non-invasive rhinoplasty (nose job)
to rid of nose bumps or unsavory shapes. Lasting up to one and a
half years, Radiesse has become a popular alternative to other available
fillers. Radiesse® is ideal for the treatment of facial lines and
wrinkles around the nose and mouth. These lines typically follow
one of two patterns, running from the nose to the corners of the
upper lip (nasolabial
folds) or pointing down from the corners of the mouth towards
the chin (marionette
lines). Clinically proven to reduce facial wrinkles and smile
lines safely and effectively, Radiesse is also FDA-approved
for the restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial
lipoatrophy) in people with human immunodeficiency virus.
Numerous
medical studies have shown that Radiesse is a safe and effective
treatment for filling
and correcting smile lines, nasolabial
folds, and wrinkles around the nose and mouth
No allergy testing is necessary prior to treatment
Immediate Satisfaction,
Long-lasting Results
The wrinkle treatment results provided
by Radiesse dermal filler are immediate and long lasting.
The effects of Radiesse may last a year or more in many patients.
In addition, Radiesse treatments may require fewer office
visits for retreatments.
Risks of Radiesse Treatment
The most common Radiesse side effects are redness, bruising, and
swelling. These side effects generally last for a short time and
are mild in nature. As with all procedures that involve an injection
through the skin, there is a risk of infection.
Sculptra –
Facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, is the loss of fat beneath the skin,
which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes.
Made from micronized suture material, Sculptra can correct facial
wasting with long term results after only a few treatment sessions.
People with mild lipoatrophy will require fewer treatments than those
with severe lipoatrophy.
Sculptra® is a safe, synthetic material
that is composed of poly-L-lactic acid. Poly-L-lactic acid
(PLLA) is a biocompatible (does not harm the body), biodegradable
(able to be broken down by the body) material that has been widely
used for many years in surgical products. Sculptra is injected below
the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. It provides a gradual
and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance
of folds and sunken areas.
Sculptra® has been safely used outside
the United States since 1999 in over 150,000 patients under the trade
names New-Fill™ and Sculptra®. Sculptra®
is not made from human or animal sources and does not require a skin
test.
Lasting
Results
The effects of Sculptra® are enduring. In a clinical study,
effects lasted for up to 2 years after the first treatment session
in most patients. The results from Sculptra® are not immediate; Sculptra®
provides a gradual increase in skin thickness. We generally see patients
every four weeks to decide if additional injections are needed. Touch-up
treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effects. Sculptra®
is injected into the skin for restoration and/or correction of the
signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in people with human immunodeficiency
virus.
Important Safety Information
You should not use Sculptra® if you are allergic to any ingredient
of Sculptra®. Sculptra® should not be injected while you have an
active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area.
Side
effects of Sculptra® may include the delayed appearance of small
bumps under the skin in the treated area. Generally these bumps
are not visible and may only be noticed when pressing on the treated
area. Other side effects may include injection-related events at
the site of injection, such as bleeding, tenderness or discomfort,
redness, bruising or swelling.
Sculptra has been FDA approved for facial
atrophy associated with HIV disease and therapy.
