Trying to get rid of unwanted hair on the face
or body is a common problem for both men and women. Laser hair reduction
offers results that cannot be achieved with conventional shaving,
waxing, plucking, electrolysis, or lower frequency laser and light
systems. The laser works by targeting the hair in the follicle, below
the skin's surface.
Our Light Age alexandrite laser is safe and effective
for all areas of the body and for men and women of all ages. The
laser energy is transformed into heat, which destroys the hair follicle
leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. Facial areas such as the
upper lip and sideburns, bikini area, upper and lower legs, arms,
chest, and back may be treated leaving skin smooth, stubble free
and without the irritation of ingrown hairs.
Hair grows in cycles. A minimum
of four treatments will be necessary, as the process is most effective
on hair during the early growth cycle. After each session, you will
see substantial visible hair reduction. The number of treatments
required depends upon your skin color and coarseness of the hair.
Repeat sessions will be necessary to treat the follicles when they
re-enter the early growth phase. Re-growth in between treatments
will also come in thinner and finer.
How Many Sessions Are Needed?
The number of sessions will vary for each individual and will also
depend upon where the hair is located on the body. During the initial
visit, the Light Age removes the visible hair and disables those
follicles in the "active" phase of the growth cycle. Follicles
in the "resting" phase will not be affected. Eventually,
as these dormant hairs become active and begin to grow, additional
sessions may be desired. Over time, hair growth will be slower and
finer. We recommend a minimum of four treatments, and then a maintenance
schedule according to each individual. Prices are per treatment,
according to the area of the body.
All of our hair removal patients are treated by a laser surgeon,
not aestheticians. We will individualize your treatment based on
skin type, hair color, texture and thickness. In doing so, we can
maximize your potential for permanent hair reduction without putting
you at risk.
Photodynamic
Therapy (Kerastik) for Acne
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) kills the p. acnes
bacteria in your skin, decreases sebum production and provides long
term improvement of inflammatory or cystic (not comedonal) acne.
The treatment utilizes a drug, called Levulan
ALA, to specifically target inflammatory acne at its root. Levulan
has been used in the skin for decades to treat severe sun damage
and skin cancers in adults. The product, called Kerastick, is applied
topically (directly on the skin) and allowed to absorb painlessly
for approximately 1 hour into the sebaceous glands of the skin. A
light or laser source is then used to "photo-activate" the Levulan ALA and thus
directly affect and “smart bomb” the hair follicle and sebaceous
glands. In addition, the laser up-regulates the production of collagen
causing significant improvements in scars and textural abnormalities.
The laser treatment itself takes approximately 10 minutes. Patients
may feel mild stinging or burning when the skin is exposed to the
light or laser source. Afterwards, there is no pain and mild to moderate
redness can persist from 0-2 days, like a mild sunburn. For about
24 hours after treatment patients must avoid direct sunlight. Patients
usually require 2-3 treatments spaced by 3 week intervals to see
significant improvement (80% or greater) that will last for months
at a time. Depending on the severity of the condition, the number
and strength of the required treatments will vary.
Versapulse Laser click for before & after photos
Recent advances in laser technology enable us to treat several problems that involve faulty blood vessels without the severity of black and blue marks of earlier lasers.
The Versapulse laser is a 532nm KTP vascular laser that is highly
effective for the reduction of vascular lesions of the skin of the
face and body. This laser is a powerful green light that is
pulsed through a cold crystal hand piece that cools the skin. The
laser feels like a prick and results in immediate blanching (vessel
disappears) of the blood vessel with a mild pink puffiness. The mild
pink puffiness typically resolves in a few days. Versapulse is a
very safe treatment and represents, in our experience, the best method
for vessel destruction. Although the Versapulse blanches the vessel
on the first treatment, the body will try to reopen these vessels
within a few weeks. It is typical to have 1 to 3 or more treatments
for long lasting clearance. Birthmarks, scars, and severe cases will
respond as well but will require many more treatments.
Broken capillaries, red and raised scars, leg veins, rosacea, and
persistent facial flushing are few of the several problems that we
can safely and effectively treat with minimal downtime. This laser
is also effective for spider angiomas, venous lakes (blue-purple
bumps on the lower lip), facial, neck, and chest redness, vascular
birthmarks, red stretch marks.
